Hoogsteder Groep commissions gasless warehouse in Bleiswijk
Fruit and vegetable exporter Hoogsteder Fruit and Vegetables, part of The Greenery, recently moved to a brand-new warehouse in Bleiswijk. It’s just barely two kilometres away on a map, but it’s still a milestone for Hoogsteder, which is centralising its activities in the 8000-m² warehouse. Erik Dekkers, location manager at Hoogsteder Groep in Bleiswijk, gives us a look behind the scenes.
Centralisation
“In order to centralise our commercial and logistics activities in one building, we opted for a new distribution centre. After all, we wanted a warehouse that met our requirements in order to make our activities more efficient and to grow further over the next ten years. WDP, which already provides real estate space to our parent company The Greenery, has proposed several lots. We chose a site in the well-known Bleiswijk.”
Bleiswijk, logistics hotspot
“The new DC is located in the Prisma Business Park, close to the A12 motorway from The Hague to Utrecht. And the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam are also nearby. It’s a central location for the supply of fruit & vegetables and their distribution to Western and Southern Europe. We’re positioned well for airfreight to overseas areas too. Bleiswijk appeared to be the ideal logistics hub. Moreover, most of our permanent staff live nearby.”
Warehouse with ambition
“Efficiency and a pleasant working environment were the main priorities during the development of the new building. WDP has thought about this throughout the entire process, made recommendations based on their expertise, and involved all parties in good time. About two years later, the results were already tangible: a gasless warehouse with LED lighting, motion sensors, energy-conscious cooling techniques, solar panels, adjustable workplaces, etc. We are very confident that, thanks to this DC, we will be able to handle our logistics even more intelligently and thus realise our ambitions.”
