Safety and sustainability are the priority in new project for Rust-Oleum in Genk.

Rust-Oleum Europe specialises in distributing paint and varnish products, coatings and flooring products and is part of RPM, the US based company. Soon, their operations in Europe will be bundled into one warehouse in Genk, which is currently being built by WDP. This will create huge efficiency gains,’ says Martin Smits, Site Manager at SPS. Today, WDP invites all partners involved to celebrate together, as the works have officially started.

Safety first

WDP is committed to meeting all of RPM’s specific needs. Finding a location was no easy task,’ says Smits. Our lacquer and paint products are not dangerous as such but storing them in large quantities does become dangerous.’

So construction expert WDP relieved Rust-Oleum with a suitable site in Genk, close to the Albert Canal. Moreover, it was also important to provide the right permits for fire and environmental risks. But it extends beyond that,’ adds Andreas Vermost, Development Manager at WDP. The building will be equipped with five large fire compartments.’

What can Rust-Oleum expect from their warehouse?

  • 30,000 square metres of warehouse
  • Expandable to 60,000 square metres
  • A sustainable BREEAM certificate
  • An efficient traffic flow around the site
  • Solar panels on the roof

Festive kick-off

On 28 May 2024, WDP is festively welcoming clients and partners to celebrate the start of the works with a tasty bite and drink. In the meantime, the first piles went into the ground. Completion of the new warehouse is scheduled for January 2025. We are enormously looking forward to this long-term cooperation with WDP,’ Martin Smits concludes.
