Setting a new standard in Veterinary Logistics

At WDP, every partnership is a chance to innovate and redefine what’s possible in logistics real estate. Our collaboration with Maravet — a Covetrus company — has resulted in a next-generation, temperature-controlled warehouse in Cicârlău, near Baia Mare, Romania. This project is a shining example of our commitment to tailored solutions, operational excellence, and sustainable design — ensuring our clients are always ready for tomorrow.

Understanding Maravet’s unique needs

Maravet leads the way in distributing veterinary pharmaceuticals and pet food. Their operations require not just storage, but highly specialized environments to guarantee product safety, quality, and compliance with the highest biosecurity standards. The assignment was clear:

  • A warehouse designed for Maravet’s specific operational needs
  • Integration of refrigerated rooms, blast freezers, and dedicated spaces for hazardous goods

From day one, our mission was to deliver a facility that would exceed expectations and support Maravet as they prepare for what’s next in their sector.

From Vision to Reality: Project Timeline

  • Agreement Signed: 5 February 2024
  • Building Permit Issued: 6 June 2024
  • Construction Start: 12 June 2024
  • Completion & Acceptance: 28 March 2025

This efficient timeline reflects our reliability and our drive to help clients adapt to changing market needs — without missing a beat.

Engineering Excellence: Build-to-Suit realisation

Our build-to-suit approach means every aspect of the warehouse was engineered for Maravet’s operations, ensuring they’re always prepared for change. Highlights include:

  • Refrigerated rooms and blast freezers for sensitive products
  • Atypical metal mezzanine for storing small items
  • Specialized spaces for hazardous goods with advanced biosecurity
  • Automated, gas-free heating systems
  • LED lighting with automatic dimming
  • Precision climate control throughout the facility

We also honored local tradition by weaving the architectural style of Maramureș into the warehouse’s smoking area — a unique blend of innovation and heritage.

Sustainability and Smart Design: Warehouses built for What’s Next

WDP’s Warehouses with Brains” philosophy was central to this project. For Maravet, we integrated smart systems and sustainable features, including:

  • 37,222 m² plot area
  • 11,166 m² of green area
  • 650 m³ rainwater recuperation capacity
  • 12 km of hydrants and sprinkler pipes
  • 1,000 sprinkler heads for optimal safety
  • 75 km of cables and 900 lighting features
  • 249,335 kg of steel reinforcements and 104,445.2 kg of metal structure
  • 11.5 m free height for maximum flexibility

These details showcase our commitment to designing logistics spaces that are resilient and ready for evolving industry needs.

For me, the highlight was being part of a team that built a warehouse for veterinary medication and pet food. I am very happy I could contribute to the wellbeing and health of the pets which will be fed and nursed back to health with our help. I had never participated in a project intended for veterinary products before, and it was exciting and humbling at the same time.
